How to Clear Mold Off Your Roof Shingles

Molds on Your Roof Shingles?

We know the pains of mold and mildew growing. Not only is it unappealing, but it’s a serious health hazard as well. However, it can be cleaned out quite easily with a few household items— so it isn’t that big of a problem in general. But mold rapidly growing in hard-to-reach areas like your roof shingles? That, dear readers, is even more challenging.

But you shouldn’t worry! BITC Roof Tiles is here to help you out on this one.

Roofs are (obviously) very high places, and it’s best that you are trained and have the necessary safety gear to go up on the roof. That’s why most homeowners (and us roofing companies as well!) prefer experienced roofers to do professional and thorough roof cleaning. You might want to consider this first, too. As always, safety first!

However, if you feel like you are fit for the task— we’ll give you tips on how to clean out the unsightly black mold covering your roof.

  1. Secure your safety gear. A harness is the best tool to have. Be careful while going up on your roof and make sure you’re well-equipped.
  2. Power washing is definitely an option for removing mold on your roof shingles, but it may damage your roof— and it might do more harm than good.
  3. Mix a 1 part bleach and 1 part water. Spray on the area of mold growth and leave it to decompose for about 1 hour. If you need a stronger cleanser, one cup of trisodium phosphate in one gallon of water is a viable alternative.
  4. Rinse off the solution with water using a hose. Again, be careful while doing so.

All in all, removing mold and mildew from your roof shingles is a simple, yet daunting task. If you want to leave it up to the professionals, contact BITC Roof Tiles today!
